Introduction: Tinea infection is a common complaint encountered in day-to-day practice with increasing incidence, especially in countries such as India over the past decade. Tinea capitis is predominantly a disease of prepubertal children characterised by lesions of variable morphology on the scalp associated with itching, erythema, signs of inflammation and hair loss. Prompt recognition and treatment are necessary to prevent its spread due to its contagious nature, associated hair loss and the resultant psychological impact on social life. Individualised homoeopathic treatment has a significant scope in treating and combating such conditions cost-effectively through the totality of symptoms. Case Summary: A 12-year-old girl presented at an outpatient clinic with erythematous and circular lesions with itching, burning pain and hair fall. Pulsatilla nigricans 200 was prescribed initially and later Pulsatilla 1M was prescribed as per the homoeopathic principles. The case was followed up fortnightly for 6 months. The patient was successfully treated with marked improvement in signs and symptoms (especially during the rainy season, which is the usual time for aggravation of tinea infections) within 6 months with no aggravation and adverse events. The Modified Naranjo Criteria Score was used to establish the causal attribution to the prescribed medicine, with a total score of 9. This case report suggests that individualised homoeopathic medicines are useful in the treatment of tinea capitis.

Background: There is a growing concern about the increasing burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and their risk factors globally. Objectives: This study assesses the impact of the integration of Ayush (homoeopathy along with yoga) in the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Cancer, Diabetes, Cardiovascular Diseases, and Stroke at the level of patients and conventional physicians. Methods: This cross-sectional study was carried out on the participants already enrolled for the treatment of NCDs at 22 Ayush-Lifestyle Disorders clinics in four districts across India. Participants of any gender, aged 30 years or older, were included. A structured questionnaire covering knowledge, attitude and practice (KAP) regarding NCDs was filled out by the participants. Pearson’s correlation coefficient was applied to measure the relationship between KAP scores. Results: 1923 participants took part in the study. 68.7% (n = 1322) agreed with the benefits of homoeopathic medicine to a large extent, 29.7% (n = 917) agreed to some extent, and 1.5% (n = 29) did not agree about the merits of homoeopathy. 61.8% (n = 1189) participants noticed considerable changes in their health condition after taking homoeopathy and yoga, while 36.2% (n = 696) felt the change in health to some extent, and the remaining 1.1% (n = 22) did not notice any change. The correlation revealed significant positive linear correlations between knowledge-attitude (r = 0.49, P < 0.001), knowledge-practice (r = 0.49, P < 0.001) and attitude-practice (r = 0.52, P < 0.001). Conclusion: The findings indicate a successful integrated approach that can be adopted in providing healthcare to patients suffering from NCDs.

Introduction: Chronic alcoholic pancreatitis with necrotising exacerbation and pseudocyst is a condition with a poor prognosis. The disease pathology, along with a history of trauma, and alcohol dependence, adds up to the severity making it more difficult to treat. The main surgical management is cyst drainage. Individualised homoeopathic medicine can resolve this without surgical intervention. Case Summary: In a case with a combination of pathology, trauma and addiction, arriving at a homoeopathic similimum can be challenging. The present case study demonstrates the management of a patient in a semi-comatose state with abdominal rigidity and ultrasonographic evidence of pancreatic pseudocyst. The acute exacerbation of pancreatitis with pseudocyst and the chronic state were managed with acute and constitutional homoeopathic remedies selected through Boenninghausen’s and Boger’s approaches, respectively. The causal attribution was assessed by MONARCH inventory. The outcome of the treatment showed complete resolution of the necrotised pancreas and pseudocyst rendering the patient back to his daily living.
