dc.description.abstract Introduction: Gymnema sylvestre (GS) is a medicinal plant commonly used in complementary medicine to treat diabetes mellitus. This plant is proven scientifically to reduce blood glucose levels in the diabetic condition. However, till date, only little literature is published about the efficacy of GS prepared homoeopathically. Objective: In this study, we assessed the efficacy of homoeopathic preparation of GS (HPGS) in Q, 30C and 200C potencies in streptozotocin induced diabetic rats. Materials and Methods: Diabetic rats were administered with 4.7 mL/kg of HPGS mother tincture (Q) for anti hyperglycaemic efficacy on daily bases over a period of 14 days and HPGS Q, HPGS 30C and HPGS 200C potencies for dose dependent testing on daily basis for 90 days. Results: On completion of treatment period, HPGS Q and HPGS 200C significantly reduced the blood glucose levels in diabetic rats (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Current research findings showed that HPGS mother tincture and HPGS 200C have the ability to lower blood glucose levels in diabetic rats, suggesting its efficacy in vivo. en_US
